Captain Awkward: “My friend group has a case of the Creepy Dude. How do we clear that up?”
This is about both the idea that some blokes have of how to behave around women, and the attitude of other blokes to them. You know, the Nice Guys who think that being nice gets them sex, or that it is 'cool' to harass you and make sexy jokes that are not funny at all. Most blokes are not creepy dudes, nor are they Nice Guys™ in the negative sense, but some are.
One comment on the first post was by shinobi42 and I include a snippit of that comment below: "Most people think in their heart of hearts that they are moral stand up awesome people who would never allow bad behavior to stand and that they are brave enough to stand up to it.Very few people actually are. When confronted with something horrible that they have ignored and dismissed they are going to minimize it, because to acknowledge how awful it is will be to do more than challenge their beliefs about the situation, it will also challenge their beliefs about themselves. And people don’t like to challenge their intrinsic beliefs about their identity. They would rather believe that you are overreacting than that they are not the strong moral leader that they think they are."
